Kohs began his teaching career in 1946 with posts at the Kansas City Conservatory, the College of the Pacific and Stanford University. In 1950 he joined the faculty of the University of Southern California, teaching there for 38 years. Kohs was the author of several music theory textbooks. less

She was codirector of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (1961-1965) and director when it became the Mills Tape Music Center (1966-1967). From 1967-1981 she taught at the University of California, San Diego. In 1981 she became consulting director of the Creative Music Foundation at West Hurley, New York.
