The Hasbrouck family papers include original documents and copies of documents relating to the Hasbrouck family of New Paltz, New York, 1730-1858. The bulk of the papers are comprised of legal documents such as indentures, wills, and financial documents including property lists, account books, and receipts. The papers belong predominantly to John Hasbrouck; Elias Hasbrouck (1741-1791), a merchant from Woodstock, Ulster County, NY; and Richard M. Hasbrouck. Other family members represented in the collection include Susannah Hasbrouck, Abraham Hasbrouck, Elizabeth Hasbrouck, Phoebe Nordstrom, and William Conklin. Items of note include John Hasbrouck's undated school exercise book; a list dating from 1777 of the losses sustained by Elias Hasbrouck "in the burning of Esopus," and a 1764 letter from Henry Remsen to Elias Hasbrouck, discussing the new act passed in Parliament preventing trade with non- English islands. less

Reverend Henry Miller Cox (1854-1916) was a minister of the Reformed Church of America and a genealogist. He held pastorates in New York and New Jersey, and was the author of The Cox Family in America, published in 1912. The Henry Miller Cox papers includes his personal and professional correspondence as a clergyman, 1904-1915, and papers pertaining to his genealogical research on the Cox family in America. Research materials include correspondence with Cox family members and others, and notes and family trees he compiled. Nineteenth-century Cox family documents consist of business papers, 1818-1871, of his father James B. Cox of New Brunswick, N.J. and New York City, and his associates, including the New Brunswick firm of Bray & Cox in partnership with John W. Bray. These include correspondence, legal and financial documents, and receipts and orders for sugar, cloth, brandy, wood, and other dry goods. less

Linda Faile Browning Herrick (1889-1981) was the eldest daughter of John Aaron Browning, founder of the Browning School. She was married to Dayton Edwards Herrick of Westchester County, N.Y. The Linda Faile Browning Herrick collection contains genealogical research, notes, pedigree charts, clippings, photographs, and correspondence on the Browning, Faile, Dayton, Dieckmann, Doyer, Greer, Lynch, and Herrick families. Included are 19th and 20th century family records, correspondence, and Bible records, some present in photocopy; and photographs of people, houses, and cemeteries. Also present is a notebook, possibly used in school, 1863, that might have belonged to William H. Mary Crawford Murray Hyde was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and a contributor to The New Jersey Coast in Three Centuries (The Lewis Publishing Company, 1902). John Dean Fish (1846-1935) was a genealogist and contributor to the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. The John Dean Fish papers consist of his genealogical correspondence and research materials, including family records, charts, notes and writings, and research files, pertaining to the Fish family of England in America. Although his published work, The Fish Family of Great Bowden in Leicestershire, England, traces the family's roots back for centuries in England, the bulk of the material in this collection pertains to a projected later work on the members of the family after their emigration to America in the eighteenth century. His research for The Fish Family in America included many branches of the Fish family throughout the United States, the majority of which settled in New York and New England. Among the prominent members of the family were Hamilton Fish (1808-1893), a politician who served as Governor of New York and Secretary of State under President Grant, and his son, Stuyvesant Fish (1851-1923), president of the Illinois Central Railroad. The collection, the bulk of which reflects his research activities from the 1890s through the 1920s, contains his correspondence with, and documents collected from, various individuals, government agencies, and historical societies, as well as files he compiled on individual family members and the towns in which they lived. Also present is a manuscript of his work The Fish Family of Great Bowden in Leicestershire, England; an original 1732 record (and typed transcript) of a legal dispute which involved Martha and Moses Fish of Stonington, CT; and a copy made by Fish in 1864 of an 1811 extract from the diary of Asa Fish. less

Joseph Hillyer Brewer was a publisher, librarian and president of Olivet College. Approximately fifty percent of the collection consists of genealogical notes, charts, correspondence, and clippings resulting from his research and that of other family members into the histories of the allied Ackerman, Bogardus, Bradley, Burr, Chardarayne, Creighton, Giles, Cropsey, Havens, Keeler, Montfort, Pryer, Roorbach, Stayner, Schuyler, Van Vechten, Ward, and Whiting families. Round Top Lutheran Church, named for the structure's round-topped roof, was established in Dutchess County in about 1746. The locality is now a hamlet called Bethel in the the town of Pine Plains. The church was established after the break up of a Moravian Indian Mission called Shekomeko, which was located on farm land owned by Edward Huntting The church records include births, baptisms, and lists of communicants mainly from 1760 to 1787, but with some additional entries, possibly unrelated to Round Top, recording vital statistics from the early 19th Century. The collection was transcribed in 1921 by Walter Kenneth Griffin. The transcription has been microfilmed and is available in the Milstein Division less

Rufus King (1838-1924) was a banker by profession as well as a respected genealogist. The son of Rufus Sylvester and Phoebe Odell King, his New England ancestors included the revolutionary war veteran and New York State Senator Rufus King, after whom he was named. The Rufus King genealogical research papers consist primarily of the notes and correspondence generated and collected by King in the course of tracing his family's lineage, as well as an assortment of family papers dating from 1720 to 1866. less

William Salmon (1684-1759) of Southold, Long Island, was a grandson of William Salmon (b. 1610) who emigrated from England to Southold in 1635. The collection includes the original manuscript (1 v.) known and published as the Salmon Records, a private register of marriages and deaths, 1696-1815, of residents and persons associated with the town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, as well as a separate manuscript index (1 v.) compiled by Joseph H. Petty in 1860. The register was started by William Salmon (1684-1759) of Southold, and continued by members of the Salmon family. The volume contains what appear to be two separate registers, later bound together and re-paginated in red ink as one. The first, a register of deaths with a few marriages, spans 1696-1815; the second, of marriages, spans [1702]-1811. The manuscript index compiled by Joseph H. Petty in 1860 conforms to the re-pagination. less

The collection includes indentures for land transactions, records of road surveys, wills, articles of agreement for employment, tenant leases, subpoenas, land search records, specifications for building a house, mortgages, accounts, receipts for payment of back taxes and a small amount of correspondence. Also present are inventories of household items, farm implements, and livestock in the possession of Joshua and Lucy Smith at the time of his death in 1811, and of their son Richard Wallace Smith's household items at the time of his death in 1868, as well as a photocopy of a Smith family tree. less
