Fair copies of 46 letters by Digby in a contemporary scribe's hand. There are holograph corrections by Digby. The letters are to his sons (Kenelm, John and George) and other relatives and friends after the death of his wife, Lady Venetia, in 1633. The manuscript also contains a personal prayer and three discourses on the soul, all written at Gresham College, where Digby retired for 3 years to mourn his wife's death. Negative photostats. less

Negative photostats and typed transcripts of records from the Amsterdam Lutheran Church archives relating to Lutheranism in New Netherlands. The records consist of minutes of the Consistory at Amsterdam, correspondence between the Consistory and Lutherans in New York, and petitions of Lutheran leaders to the Consistory and to the directors of the Dutch West India Company. Accompanying the transcripts is a typescript, "The Lutheran Church in New York, 1649-1772: Records in the Lutheran Church Archives at Amsterdam, Holland." The typescript is an English translation of the records by Arnold J.H. van Laer, with an introduction by Harry J. Kreider, Chairman of the Committee on Documentary History of the United Lutheran Synod of New York. less

Collection consists of British correspondence and official documents (handwritten transcripts in part), dealing mainly with European diplomatic affairs and the American colonies, collected during the 18th century by Philip, Lord Hardwicke, and by his sons, the second Earl of Hardwicke and Charles Yorke. less

Henry Ward Poole (1825-1890) was an American engineer, professor and collector of Mexicana. He worked as an engineer for the Mexican Pacific Coal and Iron Mining and Land Company in 1856-1857 and then returned to Mexico to teach at the College of Mines in Mexico City and amass his collection of Mexican documents. Collection consists of documents related mainly to Mexican civil and ecclesiastical matters. Bulk of the material concerns civil affairs and includes items such as legal and fiscal records, government documents, and military records. Ecclesiastical papers contain materials about the Spanish Inquisition, church records, and school and convent records. Also, some personal correspondence, genealogies, and documents pertaining to Peru and the Philippines. less

Benjamin Franklin (Ben) Grauer (1907-1977) was an American radio and television announcer, reporter and news commentator. In the mid 1960s he assembled a collection of mainly French historical manuscripts. Collection contains approximately 10,000 manuscript letters, documents and printed ephemera collected by Grauer. Manuscripts cover a wide span of time and subject matter and are of minor figures in French literary, cultural, social, academic, governmental, and administrative life. Also includes some English, Italian and Arabic items. Printed ephemera consists of flyers, pamphlets, reports and minutes of governing bodies during the period of the French Revolution, as well as invitations, menus, programs, posters, and engravings. less

Friesland is a province of the Netherlands on the North Sea. The province was part of the Spanish Empire until the late 16th century when it became one of the United Provinces of Holland. The provinces joined with the Belgian provinces in 1815 to form the kingdom of the Netherlands. In 1832 the Belgian provinces separated to form Belgium. Collection consists of resolutions for the provincial state of Friesland, 1584-1793; resolutions for authorized states, 1517-1564 (with gaps); and volumes of registers for resolutions, 1570-1780. less

The Beadle family settled in the U.S. in Salem, Mass. in the 17th century. Members of the family moved on to Connecticut and New York State. Erastus Flavel Beadle (1821-1894) was a printer and publisher who formed a company in 1856 with Robert Adams in New York City. In 1860 they published the first dime novel and continued the series with great success. Collection consists of record books and correspondence of Beadle family members, and diary of Erastus Flavel Beadle. Record books, 1635-1865, concern family legal matters, births, deaths, marriages, and baptisms. Correspondence, 1753-1889, of Beadle family members includes genealogical information. Diary, 1857, records the journey of Erastus Flavel Beadle from Buffalo, N.Y. to Nebraska. less

Members of the Bowne family included John Bowne (1627-1695), a Quaker leader in New York; Robert H. Bowne (1776-1843), a New York merchant; and Jacob Titus Bowne (1847-1925), a genealogist. Collection consists of Jacob Titus Bowne's correspondence, 1868-1921, and genealogies relating to the history of the Bowne family of England and Flushing, New York, and 17th, 18th, and 19th century manuscripts concerning the Bowne family. Included are an agreement, 1688, signed by William Bradford; John Bowne's account with Bradford, 1686; manuscripts of Samuel Bowne; transcript of journal of John Bowne relating to journeys taken between Boston, Flushing, Holland, Madeira, Barbados, and England, 1650-1677, with related correspondence, accounts, and family records; account book, 1796-1803, of Robert Bowne; photostats of land conveyances in Flushing, 1652-1776; account book, 1649-1703, of John Bowne, including cider sold to William Penn and others, books received from William Bradford to be sold, accounts of the Society of Friends, accounts kept as Treasurer of Queens County, N.Y., with entries continued by Samuel Bowne; and miscellaneous marriage certificates, portraits and views, wills, inventories, marriage and birth records, and late 19th and early 20th century published works relating to the Bowne family and the Bowne House. less

Collection consists of manuscript, scrolls written in Manchu and Chinese, and ink sticks. Manuscript is 16th-century transcription of encyclopedia of Chinese literature written by Emperor Yung Lo in 1408. Scrolls, 1651-1828, are imperial documents done on various colors of silk pasted on paper. Ink sticks (in black lacquer box) form a painting on the front with Chinese characters on the back. less
