Henry Ward Poole (1825-1890) was an American engineer, professor and collector of Mexicana. He worked as an engineer for the Mexican Pacific Coal and Iron Mining and Land Company in 1856-1857 and then returned to Mexico to teach at the College of Mines in Mexico City and amass his collection of Mexican documents. Collection consists of documents related mainly to Mexican civil and ecclesiastical matters. Bulk of the material concerns civil affairs and includes items such as legal and fiscal records, government documents, and military records. Ecclesiastical papers contain materials about the Spanish Inquisition, church records, and school and convent records. Also, some personal correspondence, genealogies, and documents pertaining to Peru and the Philippines.
