Robert Holt (? - ca. 1990) was a music arranger active in New York City in the early 1970s, known professionally as Bob Holt. The Bob Holt scores date from 1958 to 1977 and contain arrangements of over 200 jazz and American songbook standards for piano trios and big bands.

Robert Holt (? - ca. 1990) was a music arranger active in New York City in the early 1970s, known professionally as Bob Holt.

Scope and arrangement

The Bob Holt scores date from 1958 to 1977; most were created in the 1970s. All are either manuscripts or manuscript copies. They contain arrangements of over 200 jazz and American songbook standards, the majority for either piano trio or vocalist and piano trio. A few are for jazz big band, or other large (15-18 piece) ensembles with varying instrumentation. The arrangements for large ensemble contain parts as well as full scores; some of the arrangements for piano trio contain parts, but most do not. The collection also holds one folder of sketches and orphan score pages.

Custodial history

The collection was donated to the Music Division by Robert Holt's parents, Gordon and Shirley Holt. These scores were not the entirety of Robert Holt's papers; they represent only those scores his family acquired after his death.

Source of acquisition

Donated by Gordon and Shirley Holt in 1991.

Processing information

Scores were arranged, foldered and rehoused by the Music Division in the 1990s. No further physical processing was necessary.
