Glenn Pressler (1915-1990), a bass-baritone vocalist, performed as a soloist or in choruses in New York City in the 1940s and early 1950s. In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked at Herbert Barrett Management, where he managed the careers of the vocalists Eileen Farrell and Morley Meredith. The Glenn Pressler papers, dating from 1897 to 1988, document Pressler’s careers in vocal performance and artist management. They hold correspondence, concert programs, photographs, clippings, and memorabilia. less

The records of the Lavanburg Foundation contain meeting minutes and administrative files documenting the activities of the foundation, records of construction of the Lavanburg Villages, and files on grants awarded. Materials are organized in three series (Administrative Files, Lavanburg Villages Project, and Grants), and range in date from 1927 to 2011. The Fred L. Lavanburg Foundation was established in 1927 as a low-income, non-profit housing corporation for families with children who were unable to find housing elsewhere. The Lavanburg Homes were constructed in Manhattan in 1927, and in 1956, were donated to New York City. In the 1960s, the Lavanburg Foundation took on a second construction project, building the Lavanburg Villages in the Bronx. From 1927 to 2006, the Lavanburg Foundation also provided seed-money grants to organizations assisting in the foundation's mission of providing better housing and social support for low-income families. The Lavanburg Foundation closed in 2011. less

Dr. Werner Egon Eugen Klimpt (1900- ), a German mathematician, emigrated to the United States in 1946. From 1933 to 1939 he studied the forestry, timber and paper industry at the Institute for Business Cycle Research in Berlin. Collection consists of diaries and notebooks Klimpt kept in Germany during World War II, 1939-1946, and in New York, Chicago and Galesburg, Ill., 1946-1958. Also, several manuscripts of technical and poetical writings in German; and personal papers, 1922-1960, including watercolor sketchbook and membership booklet in Organisation Todt, a Nazi labor group. less

Stage, screen and television actor, Roland Young (1887-1953), was born in London and performed in England and the United States. One of his most notable films was Topper (1937). Young became a U.S. citizen in 1918; he died at home in his sleep in New York City in 1953. Roland Young's scrapbook and originals consist primarily of his original drawings and artwork, personal and professional photographs, scripts and poetry (several written by Young himself), a few pieces of correspondence, contracts, financial papers, and some personal ephemera, all documenting Young's life and acting career. There are some photographs of caricatures by Jean Negulesco. Stage and film productions included in the photographs are the film, The Great Lover (1949) with Bob Hope, the stage production, Perfect Pitch (Montclair Theatre, New Jersey, 1948) with Buddy Ebsen; Actors Cary Grant and Henry Daniell are in 2 candid photographs. less

Comedian and author Joe Laurie Jr. (ca. 1894-1954) was born on the Lower East Side of New York City. He entered vaudeville in his teens, later performing in a number of shows on Broadway and across the U.S. Laurie and his first wife, Aleen Bronson, performed together in vaudeville until 1918; they had a son, Bryant. In 1922, Laurie married June Butcher and they lived in Forest Hills, New York. Laurie was a star of the radio version of Can you top this? He was the author of numerous vaudeville skits, screenplays, radio and television programs, plays, and syndicated columns, as well as the author of 2 books on vaudeville: Show biz, from vaude to video (with Abel Green) (Holt, 1951); Vaudeville: from the honkytonks to the Palace (Holt, 1953). After a long illness, Laurie died at St. Clare's Hospital, New York City at about age 61 (sources vary). Original caricatures and sketches, mostly black and white and mostly of Joe Laurie Jr. There are also cartoons, comic strips, etchings, reproductions, and paste ups of 2 syndicated newspaper features by Laurie, "Heads and Tales" and "Pen-Grins." The Friars Club and the Lambs Club are represented in several pieces. Artists include W.A.
