Marilyn J. La Vine (1931-2009) was a dance enthusiast who dedicated her life to researching and promoting the legacy of Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev (1938-1993). The Marilyn La Vine collection of Rudolf Nureyev materials (1939-2008) holds research files and photographs relating to the life and career of Rudolf Nureyev. The research files contain a master copy of La Vine’s compilation of volumes of clippings relating to Nureyev, as well as correspondence, ephemera, and scrapbooks. The photographs date from 1939 until after Nureyev’s death in 1993, and give a comprehensive representation of his dancing career. less

Ruth Mata (Mata Krantz) and Eugene Hari (Otto Ulbricht) were Swiss-born dance satirists. After touring Europe and the United States with the Trudi Schoop Comic Ballet in the 1930s, the couple formed their own company, Mata & Hari. They made their Broadway debut in The Straw Hat Revue in 1939 with Jerome Robbins and Imogene Coca. Throughout the 1940s, Mata & Hari performed at upscale supper clubs in New York, including La Martinique, the Beachcomber, and The Diamond Horseshoe, and at many concerts halls in New York and San Francisco, including Carnegie Hall and the Warfield. They made several appearances in television and film from the 1950s to the 1960s, most notably on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Mata & Hari papers document their careers from 1946 to 1974, when they were fully engrossed in their school of dance and pantomime in New York City. The collection holds press releases, newspaper reviews, show announcements, and publicity photographs. Their tour of The World in Pantomime in Dance in 1963 is the best-represented show in the collection, which featured many of their well-known acts, such as "Kiss Me, My Love" and "Carnegie Hall." less

Gilda Navarra (née Gilda Garcia Daubón, 1921-2015) was a dancer, choreographer, director, and mime. Navarra established the Taller Histriones Workshop in 1971 and held a professorship in theatre at the University of Puerto Rico. The Gilda Navarra archives, dated c. 1926 to 2007, are mainly scrapbooks that documents Navarra from childhood to her career as an artist in the performing arts. The collection holds clippings, certificates, letters, photographs, programs, posters, slides (in binders), sketches, and an artifact. The collection is mostly in Spanish. less
