Robert Bonner (1824-1899) was a newspaper publisher and trotting horse breeder. He owned and published the New York Ledger. Collection consists of general correspondence, trotting horse papers, financial documents, writings, photographs, and artifacts. General correspondence includes letters to Bonner as proprietor of the New York Ledger, with a few drafts of his replies, mostly from contributors offering stories, suggesting plots, soliciting money, acknowledging remuneration, and relating to personal matters; letters from Presbyterian clergymen about church affairs; and letters from the owners of the New York Sun, New York Herald, and New York Times, revealing Bonner's willingness to lend financial aid to those newspapers. Papers relating to the breeding, development, and shoeing of trotting horses contain letters from owners, breeders, veterinarians, editors of sporting journals, and others from all parts of the United States, especially Kentucky; notes on horses; accounts; scrapbooks of newspaper clippings containing biographical data and other material on the horse and on the Scotch Irish Society of America; and photographs, sketches and artifacts. less

The Ignaz Anton Pilat Papers contain correspondence, official documents, newspaper clippings, booklets and pamphlets, and photographs and other graphics. The largest series is correspondence, chiefly between Pilat and other individuals involved in the construction of Central Park. There are manuscripts by Pilat describing the progress of work, as well as a letter from Frederick Law Olmsted detailing Pilat's gardening duties. Other original documents date from Pilat's residence in Austria and include a letter to Ferdinand I, in which Pilat requests the position of imperial gardener, certificates of employment and education, and Pilat's passport. Leonice Marston Sampson Moulton (b. 1815) lived in Roslyn, N.Y. Collection consists of Moulton's pocket diary containing notes of daily activities, excursions, social life, and meetings with her friend William Cullen Bryant. Also, summary of the diary and several clippings. less

Members of the Bryant family were descended from Peter Bryant (1767-1820) and Sarah Snell Bryant (1766-1847) of Cummington, Mass., and included the poet William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) and his brothers, who settled in or around Princeton, Ill. The brothers were primarily involved in farming in the area. The collection consists of correspondence and other personal papers of various members of the Bryant family. Correspondence is with family members, friends and business associates and concerns pioneering and farming in Illinois and Kansas, Cullen Bryant's life as a West Point cadet, family affairs and finances, and discussions of politics, particularly slavery and the Civil War. Charles W. Bryant was a druggist of Granville, Ohio and one of the descendents of the poet William Cullen Bryant. The Charles W. Bryant genealogical research papers contain correspondence with family members, genealogical research notes, family trees, clippings, photographs, and a bound notebook of family history with an introduction by Bryant about his research on the Bryant, Halbert, McCollister, Hatherly, Gray and Fitch families. Lecocq (ca. 1900), 2 photographs of renderings of the New York Biscuit Company (ca. 1890 and 1898), 6 prints of the new Tribune Building (1873); streets depicted include Broadway, Fifth Avenue and Wall Street. Among the subjects are the New York harbor, several ships, the William Cullen Bryant memorial, and Trinity Church memorial to unknown Revolutionary War heroes, photograph by Frank E. Parshley (ca. 1900). There are also 2 prints of the Brooklyn Sanitary Fair (1864) and a house in New Utrecht, Long Island (ca. 1866), as well as a few images from other U.S. cities such as Denver and St. Paul. Portrait prints include those of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, William Nelson Cromwell, Francis L. Hawks, Robert E. William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) was an American poet, journalist, and editor. His autograph manuscript, dated circa the 1860s, contains a complete signed two-page autograph manuscript of his poem "Not Yet." The collection also includes two portrait engravings of Bryant and an engraving of Byrant's house in Roslyn, New York bound in a red levant morocco binding by Strikeman dating up to around 1900. less
