I think she had better c[ome] to Town, provided she thinks hers[elf] perfectly equal to the journey, fo[ ] a patient is generally conscious of the degree of exertion that can be m[ ] without much fatigue. John Bell, Scottish surgeon and anatomist. The premier surgeon of Edinburgh for nearly twenty years, he left for Italy to recuperate after being thrown from a horse in 1817. Bell met the Shelleys in Rome in 1819 and had considerable contact with them thereafter, both professional and social.
