Theodore Tilton was an American abolitionist, newspaper editor, poet, and supporter of women's rights, who brought suit against Henry Ward Beecher in 1874 for adultery with his wife Elizabeth R. Tilton. Collection consists of miscellaneous correspondence concerning personal, business and political matters; a few writing fragments; a clipped autograph; checks and a receipt signed by Tilton; and his voting proxy for New York Tribune Association director elections. Most letters, some in draft, are written by Tilton during his editorship of The Independent newspaper. Several items from 1866 concern Independent publisher Henry C. Bowen's loss of a political appointment due to Tilton's editorial stance against President Andrew Johnson. An 1869 letter from American diplomat E.D. (Ebenezer D.) Bassett to Tilton concerns Frederick Douglass and the Haitian mission. Letters to Gordon L. Ford of the New York Tribune are also present. Personal items include an 1865 invitation to celebrate the Tilton's tin wedding anniversary; a poem dated June 20, 1869, not by Tilton, celebrating the birth of the Tiltons' son Theodore; a letter dated August 6 from Tilton to Ford advising of the birth of a son; and an undated affectionate letter from Tilton to his wife. Correspondence also includes two letters by Elizabeth R. Tilton concerning a theater engagement and the address of her husband's lecture agent, as well as two letters to the Editor of the Tribune from subscribers expressing opinions on the Beecher-Tilton trial, 1875.

Kenneth Koch was an American poet, playwright, essayist, screenwriter, novelist, and short-story writer. The Kenneth Koch papers document the personal and professional activities of the writer, Kenneth Koch. Holograph and typescript drafts comprise the bulk of the collection. The papers contain holograph manuscripts and typescripts of the author's published and unpublished work (in every genre, including plays, "comics," and games), notes and other material related to the works, Koch's correspondence, photographs, collaborations, material related to his work with children, miscellaneous personal documents, printed material, ephemera, scrapbooks, press cuttings and photocopied reviews of his books, and holograph manuscripts and typescripts of works by other writers (especially Frank O'Hara and John Ashbery). Also included in the papers are 9 boxes of unsorted printed ephemera, and 3 boxes of journals, magazines, and newspapers. The correspondence in the collection is mostly made up of incoming material, of which there are three categories: personal, professional, and fan mail. The personal and professional correspondence is arranged alphabetically by author; within each author's folder letters are arranged by date. Of the personal correspondence and works by others, the most substantial holdings are by "New York School" artists such as Frank O'Hara, John Ashbery, James Schuyler, Larry Rivers, Harry Mathews, Fairfield Porter, and Jane Freilicher. Also noteworthy are letters and works by Koch's former students, Ron Padgett, Frank Lima, Tony Towle, David Shapiro, and Jordan Davis. Also present are publishing contracts and royalty statements for several of Koch's books.

The collection consists of miscellaneous autograph material, transcripts and printed matter reflecting Joel Barlow's personal, business and literary affairs, and his diplomatic post as U.S. Minister to France, 1812. Present are three letters by Barlow to various recipients regarding personal and literary matters, 1788-1807; a letter to Mr. Fitzgerald, a merchant in Alexandria, Va.,regarding the Scioto Land Company, 1790; Barlow's autograph translation of an agreement employing Etienne Sulpice Hallet with the Scioto Land Company, 1790; and two documents signed as U.S. Minister Plenipotentiary to France dated 28 Feb. 1812 and 13 Aug. 1812. Also, a printed decree giving Barlow the title and rights of French citizenship, 23 Feb. 1793; two engraved portraits, one with a clipped autograph receipt dated 1779; a signed check, 1811; and a binding cover with signed fly leaf. Transcripts include Barlow's correspondence regarding the purchase of wine for the Scioto Company, 1789-1790; a Bible inscription for his sister Huldah, 1805; a letter to his brother Jacob, 1809; and a photostat copy of a letter to H.P. His published works included books of poetry and articles and stories on the life of immigrants in American society. He also was editor of Puck, 1916, and literary editor of The American Hebrew, 1916-1932. Collection consists of correspondence, writings, teaching and student records, financial papers, photographs, phonograph recording, scrapbooks, and printed matter pertaining to Lieberman's activities as poet, writer and teacher. Correspondence, ca. 1910-1970, is letters from readers of his works, from colleagues, and from editors and publishers. The Foster-Murphy Collection reflects the artistic and, to a lesser degree, the political ferment of the period from 1907 to the 1920s. The bulk of the collection consists of letters to Jeanne R. After teaching comparative literature at Columbia University, he became active in literary and public affairs. He helped to found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909 and served as president from 1930 to 1939. The Spingarn medal which he endowed in 1913 is awarded yearly by the NAACP. Collection consists of correspondence, Spingarn's writings and printed matter. Correspondence is with his wife, other family members and persons in literary and academic fields, and relates to Spingarn's interests such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and horticulture.
