The writings include: a holograph inscription in his copy of the works of Pope, attesting that the book was previously owned by Byron; a holograph English translation from the original Greek of Thomas Love Peacock's poem, "A White-Bait Dinner"; and a notebook of holograph notes in Italian and English on Berni, Montaigne, Bayle, Roscoe, and others. The correspondence is dated chiefly between 1823 and 1850, and discusses publishing matters, his political career, and various matters relating to Lord Byron and his legacy. The writings consist mainly of poems, including odes to the British writers L.E.L. and Mrs. S. C. Hall. Also held are notebooks of Lady Blessington's "aphorisms," essays, and story pieces, as well as a biographical account of Captain Charles Hesse, "amatory correspondent" of Princess Charlotte. The bulk of the correspondence dates from 1835 to 1840 and discusses her work on the literary magazines and publishing, and friend and family matters. Correspondents include: William Beattie, physician and poet; William Jerdan, journalist; Richard Robert Madden, her biographer; Anne Jackson Mathews, wife of comedian Charles Mathews; and over two dozen others.

Don Juan; and the holograph manuscript of "Fare Thee Well," his poem to Lady Byron upon their separation. The bulk of the correspondence is dated between 1818 and 1823. Correspondents include Teresa Guiccioli, his last Italian mistress; Leigh Hunt, the poet, journalist, and literary critic; Thomas Moore, the poet and songwriter; Percy Bysshe Shelley, the poet; and over seventy-five others. The documents include checks, a letter of credit, and a codicil to his last will and testament.

The writings include a holograph poem, "To a friend of the Battle of Waterloo"; an unidentified story fragment; and a draft for an epitaph for her sister, the novelist Anna Maria Porter. The bulk of the correspondence dates from between 1834 and 1846, and much of it is in draft form. Correspondents include Longman Co., the publishers; Sir Robert Peel, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Mary Robinson, the author and actress; and over fifty others. Among the writings are over 30 holograph poems, including "The Pilgrim to Compostella" (two versions); "Ode on the Death of Queen Charlotte;" and a substantial part (26 poems written by Southey and an additional 8 poems written by Humphry Davy, Charles Lamb, Charles Lloyd, and William Taylor copied in Southey's hand) of the manuscript of The Annual Anthology for 1799. There are also holograph reviews, notes, a commonplace book for a planned biography of the English Dissenter George Fox, and three books from Southey's library.
