Founded in 1984 by Carl MaultsBy, the Rejoicensemble promotes musical performances and compositions by African American and African Diasporic composers and musicians. The ensemble has appeared in the Harry Belafonte film Beat Street, the Joseph Papp and Oxfam America "Lifeline to Africa" concert, and at the Caribbean Cultural Center's "Festival 1984", to name a few.
The Rejoicensemble Collection contains programs, brochures, musical scores, and a published book on the basics of learning to play gospel music on piano by Carl MaultsBy. The material spans from 1985 to 2010, and it is organized chronologically. The programs in the collection correspond with some of the scores, all of which were commissioned for the Rejoicensemble Company.
