Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of eleven audio recordings and two videos relating to or collected by Congregation Mount Horeb, dating from 1986 to 2004. Recordings include monthly membership meetings held in 1987, and a 2004 public access television interview with Rabbi Hailu Paris. The original format of the audio recordings was cassette, with many items containing two or more parts.
The Congregation Mount Horeb audio and moving image collection is arranged in two series:
-
1987-2004
The series consists of eight audio recordings dating from 1987 to 1988, and one video dated 2004. The recordings are organized chronologically. Audio recordings include six meetings of congregation leadership, and an episode of the The Gary Byrd Experience radio program. The video is of a public access television show featuring Rabbi Hailu Paris, Congregation Mount Horeb's head rabbi.
Five of the audio recordings are monthly membership meetings that primarily concern a legal dispute with a congregation member regarding the mismanagement of funds and the ownership of buildings at 134-49 228th Street, Laurelton, Queens, and 445 West 153rd Street, Manhattan, New York. One audio recording is a meeting between congregation leadership and an attorney. The transcripts of the minutes for a number of membership meetings can be found in the Congregation Mount Horeb Records, Sc MG 591.
-
1986-1997
The series consists of three audio recordings and one video collected by an unidentified individual, dating from 1986 to 1997. The recordings are organized alphabetically by title. They include a WLIB radio broadcast, and a video by the North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry, a nonprofit organization providing aid to Ethiopian Jews.
