Scope and arrangement
The collection contains forty-four audio recordings dating from circa 1980 to 1998, and one video dated 2007. A video of her memorial service highlights the activism she engaged in throughout her life. Forty-four audio recordings collected by Garvin reflect her interest in the work of activists and scholars of Black history, Afrocentrism, and Pan-Africanism. Many items contain two or more parts, because the original format of the audio recordings was cassette, and the original format of the video was DVD.

The series contains one video of a memorial service for Vicki Garvin shortly after her death.

The series contains forty-four audio recordings of panel discussions, lectures, and radio programs collected by Garvin. They are organized alphabetically by title. They include events commemorating the life and assassination of Malcolm X, discussions about the history of Africa and the African diaspora, and lectures and interviews by scholars including Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Dr. Michael Parenti, and Ivan Van Sertima. Square brackets indicate partial information or unclear spelling.
