Scope and arrangement
The records of the Student Federalists are arranged into four series: correspondence; files on conventions and other meetings held or attended by the organization; speeches, articles, and other writings by 1944-1945 president Thomas Hughes; and other general information about the members and activities of the Student Federalists. Materials date primarily during the years of the organization's existence (1942-1951), with a few documents of reminiscences falling at later dates.

Correspondence in this series is largely that received by Thomas Hughes, president of the Student Federalists 1944-1945 (though correspondence is not strictly from his term as president); primarily dealing with issues related to the Student Federalists, though some personal correspondence is also present. Files are named and arranged by correspondent.

The Meetings series contains files on conventions, congresses, and other meetings which the Student Federalists either hosted or participated in. Files include correspondence, schedules, clippings, publicity fliers, and transcripts of addressed given by Student Federalist members (primarily Thomas Hughes) at these events. Materials are arranged chronologically and range in date from 1942 to 1948.

The General records of the Student Federalists contain biographical information on various members, records of travel related to organization activities, and information on the folding of the Student Federalists into WORLD in October of 1951.

Thomas Hughes was the second president of the Student Federalists, 1944-1945. This series contains speeches and articles he authored on topics of interest to the Student Federalists causes, as well as excerpts from his diary and other personal correspondence on issues related to the organization, and his reminiscences of the organization upon their fiftieth reunion.
