Scope and arrangement
The Voelcker Papers are divided into three series: I. Writings, II. Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization, and III. National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association.
Series I. Writings consists of Voelcker's freelance writing assignments (correspondence, drafts, published articles) for OutWeek, a New York City gay magazine. Also included are materials related to his articles written for other publications.
Series II. contains material relating to the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization and the group's attempts to march in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade during the early 1990s. His files contain copies of legal documents, correspondence and a comprehensive list of newspaper coverage of the controversy.
Series III. contains chiefly printed material distributed to members of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association. Included are newsletters, correspondence, workshop flyers, and directories.

The series contains legal documents, correspondence and clippings about the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization and the controversy surrounding the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
