Scope and arrangement
The collection, ca. 1828-1902, consists primeraly of manuscripts of plays, most of which were written by Joseph Stevens Jones. There are account books, ca. 1839-1867, relating to theatrical production expenses at the Tremont Theater, Boston, and Bangor, Maine; prompt books used by George C. Boniface Sr., George C. Boniface Jr., and Nathaniel Dexter Jones, in addition to a journal, March to December 1857, of a voyage from Boston to Bombay, kept by Nathaniel while he was a crew member on board the ship “Santiago.” The journal discribes his duties, treatment by officers, food, weather, shipboard routines and leisure time activities.
Also included is one folder of miscellaneous papers and business correspondence, 1828-1902, of the Jones and Boniface families.
