Charles G. Mead was a captain in the New York City Police Dept. from 1896 to 1921. He also was admitted to the New York Bar in 1906 and in 1907 established the Legal Bureau of the Police Dept. Collection consists of letters written to Mead, and typescripts and newspaper articles describing his police career. Letters were written by Charles Ennis, police reporter and Mead's friend, and describe the effect of poison gas warfare in France and remark on the administration of the Police Dept.
