Scope and arrangement
The Alfred Williams Anthony collection is arranged in two series:

circa 1600-1930 [bulk 1800-1930]
The manuscripts are primarily 19th-20th century autographs of individuals from diverse professions, representative of primary and secondary figures. Prominent individuals represented include Susan B. Anthony, John Bigelow, Edwin Booth, Frederick Douglass, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, H.L. Menken, Franklin Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Margaret Sanger, Philip Schuyler, and Daniel Webster. Occasionally, there are poems, photographs and holograph manuscripts of poetry. Representative subjects include actors, businessmen, churches and institutions, genealogists and miscellaneous organizations.
