Beatrice Hellebrandt was a modern dance composer who was active from the 1920s through the 1940s. The collection (1926-1939, 1964) holds 26 piano scores written by Hellebrandt for group dances.

Beatrice Hellebrandt was a modern dance composer who was active from the 1920s through the 1940s. She also published manuals and books on the theory and practice of modern dance composition.

Scope and arrangement

The collection (1926-1939, 1964) holds 26 piano scores written by Hellebrandt. The scores are unpublished manuscripts written for group dances, created and performed by college students. Also present is an introduction to the music, written by Hellebrandt in 1964, describing the theory behind her compositions. Many of the scores are accompanied by typewritten descriptions outlining rhythmic plans and choreographic activities that were developed in conjunction with the music.
