Felicia Dorothea Browne Hemans, British poet. The Felicia Hemans manuscript material in the Pforzheimer Collection consists of writings and correspondence. The writings include: a holograph poem, written when she was eleven, titled "Lines on my Sister's Grotto in Wales"; a two-volume commonplace book kept by Hemans and her sister; and a holograph draft of her poem, "The Graves of a Household." The bulk of the correspondence is dated between 1821 and 1830 and discusses publishing matters, family and social arrangements, and the production of her play, Vespers of Palermo. Correspondents include: the writer Maria Jane Jewsbury; the historian Henry Hart Milman; the publisher John Murray; and over twenty others.
