He worked with director, writer, and choreographer Bob Fosse for nearly 15 years, and played the part of the stage manager in Fosse's 1979 autobiographical film, All That Jazz. He also worked extensively with directors Cy Feuer and Abe Burrows. Howard Kyle (1861-1950) was an American stage and radio actor who was active from the 1880s to the 1930s. He served as secretary of the Actors' Equity Association from 1913 until 1919, when he resigned from the organization and joined the Actors' Fidelity League. As a member of the Players, he worked to have an Edwin Booth memorial sculpture erected in Gramercy Park. The Howard Kyle papers date from the 1870s to 1954 and contain correspondence, photographs, theater programs, event programs, clippings, and other documents concerning his professional and personal life. The collection contains materials related to his work with Actors' Equity, the Actors' Fidelity League, the Players, and other theater organizations. The collection also contains materials concerning productions he was involved with, including the Howard Kyle Players production of Nathan the Wise (1912) and performances by the Century Theatre Club. The majority of the photographs are of Kyle or his wife, actor Amy Urcilla Hodges. There are also unidentified photographs and photographs of fellow performers, including singer Rosa Ponselle. Some of the photographs are inscribed to Amy Hodges. The collection also contains an unidentified one-act script and a eulogy for actor Henry Miller. Lucie Lancaster (1907-1998) was an American actor who appeared in theater, television, and film. Her papers include photographs, programs, clippings, scripts, sheet music, notes, and other papers documenting her career from the 1930s to 1983. Most of the papers pertain to theatrical productions, including The Music Man (1958 national tour), The Girl Who Came to Supper (1963), and Pippin (1972). The collection also contains two costume design sketches, including one drawing for Bajour (1964) by designer Freddy Wittop. The collection includes sides and excerpts of scripts for Lancaster's various theatrical roles, as well as full scripts for The Girl Who Came to Supper and "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals," an episode of The United States Steel Hour. Scripts and sides have some handwritten changes, and sometimes contain production papers such as rehearsal or filming schedules. The collection also includes sheet music from The Girl Who Came to Supper, Bajour, and How Now Dow Jones (1967). There are headshots and publicity photographs of Lancaster from throughout her career. The earliest item in the collection is a notebook, dating to about the 1920s, labeled "Lucy Ruby, Grand Theatre Luton." The notebook contains handwritten transcripts of dialogue from plays. less

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is an American circus company formed in 1919. The company runs two train-based tours throughout North America, the Red and Blue Tours, each of which perform a separate edition of the circus show for two years. This collection consists of sketches, fabric swatches, sample notions and jewels, photographs, measurements, specifications, and notes for a selection of costumes created for the 124th Edition Blue Tour of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. All material in the collection dates from 1994. Circus acts documented through the costume designs include the Boulibekov riding act, clowns, Muratov and Koukan aerial act, ringmaster Jim Ragona, and elephant trainers Tom Heffnet and Buckles Woodcock. Animal attire is also represented, with designs for elephant blankets and carousel horse costumes. The designs are arranged by act or performer name. Multiple design within a file are ordered sequentially by design number. Some costumes documented in the collection were designed by Michael-Jon Costumes and created by the Eaves-Brooks Costume Company. less

Ben Pesner is a writer and digital content producer for the Broadway League, a national trade association for the Broadway industry. Until 2007, the Broadway League was known as the League of American Theatres. The Ben Pesner collection on the League of American Theatres dates from 1988 to 2006 and contains teaching and study guides; souvenir brochures and programs; press kits; and promotional photographs and slides relating to plays and musicals appearing on Broadway. The guides—for shows such as Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde, Jane Eyre, Sunset Boulevard, and The Diary of Anne Frank— are the result of the work of Pesner and the League to promote Broadway plays and musicals, and make them accessible to a wide range of audiences. Many guides were written or edited by Pesner, whereas press kits, promotional photographs, and slides were submitted to the League by press agents.
