Ken Auletta (b. 1942) is a journalist and author known for his coverage of political, governmental and economic matters, often focused on New York; since the early 1990s he has written mainly about the media and communications industries. The Ken Auletta papers contain correspondence, typescripts, galleys, research materials, sound recordings and a video recording representing his writings, including feature articles for The New Yorker, his Daily News column, and several books. Correspondence (1975-1993) contains letters from prominent figures in politics, business and the media reacting to Auletta's work. Writings are documented by typescripts and galleys with revisions by Auletta and/or Jacob Epstein, his editor at Random House, and research materials, including interview transcripts and subject files containing clippings, press releases and some correspondence. Also present are notebooks (1983-1993) used for his Daily News column and other work; sound recordings (mainly interviews and speeches recorded as research material for his books and articles); and a video (1995) recording an event at which Auletta was the speaker. less

Civic leader Lester Aglar Walton (April 20, 1882 - October 19, 1965) promoted human rights through songwriting, journalism, and international diplomacy. The collection consists of four 10-inch records and one 12-inch record likely all recorded by Lester A. Walton, dating from circa 1940-1965. less

The New York Shakespeare Festival records (1954-1992) measure approximately 855 linear feet and consist of scripts, correspondence, inter-office memoranda, production materials, reports, financial records, photographs, set models, programs, and memorabilia. The records reflect the origin and activities of the New York Shakespeare Festival, its general administration, and the staging of its productions, including their creation, management, booking, and promotion. The files of the Casting Office, except in the form of carbon copies in other series, are not included in this archive. There are also gaps in the files of the Associate Producer. Contracts were removed and require special permission of the curator to access. Oral history materials in Series I and some correspondence in Series V are restricted until the year 2043 in order to protect the privacy of individual persons. Series XIV (Oversized Materials) is not fully processed and is currently unavailable for research. less
