Isaac Strange Dement (1855-1928), stenographer, publisher and teacher, was the official reporter of the Eighth Judicial System of Michigan, editor of the National Stenographer, and founder of Dement College in Chicago (1897). Collection contains correspondence, legal documents, shorthand notes, scrapbook, and printed matter. Correspondence, 1893, consists of letters of introduction for Dement. Legal documents are affidavits attesting to Dement's shorthand speed; copyright, 1888-1906, for his publications; and bills of sale, 1897. Also, shorthand notes, clippings from shorthand periodicals, pamphlet, and scrapbook of clippings regarding Dement's career. less
