In advance of Perspectives of New Music's forum on problems and discrepancies in conventional notation practice, American violinist and composer Paul Zukofsky sent a questionnaire using the organization's letterhead to 70 composers. He received 25 replies, but based his presentation on only 8 of them. The collection consists of the blank questionnaire; responses from the 8 composers used in the presentation: Martin Boykan, Elliott Carter, George Crumb, David Lewin, Seymour Shifrin, Claudio Spies, Kurt Stone, and Richard G. Swift ; handwritten and typescript drafts of Zukofsky's compilation and presentation; and additional responses from: Harvey [Sollberger?], Vincent Persichetti, Otto Luening, Josef Marx, Don Martino, Turetsky [Bertram Turetzky?], [Lejaren?] Hiller, Harold Farberman, Robert Moevs, Michael Colgrass, Eric [?] Berglund [?], J. Otto Luening (1900-1996) was a noted American composer, teacher, conductor, and flutist. A pioneer in the use of recorded and electronic sound in composition, he also co-founded the American Music Center and the recording label Composers Recordings Inc. The Otto Luening papers, dating from 1800 to 2019, document Luening's life; his career as composer, pedagogue, performer, and conductor; and his family history through professional and personal files, scores, audio and video recordings, and family papers. less

Lou Harrison's letter of February 12, 1952, contains the autograph score of his Serenade for Guitar, spontaneously composed for Wigglesworth. James Kirtland (J. K.) Randall (1929-2014) was an American music theorist, composer, and early creator of electronic music. The bulk of his collection, dating from 1953 to 1999, consists of the composer's scores and other papers documenting his compositions. The remainder comprises Randall's personal files containing his writings, theoretical notes and analyses, correspondence, and concert programs. There are also audio and moving image recordings of his compositions as well as two interviews with Randall. less
