Thomas Babington Macaulay was an English poet, historian, political essayist, literary critic, biographer, translator, and politician.

Scope and arrangement

This is a synthetic collection consisting of correspondence and a typescript related to him. The undated typescript, entitled "The Via Tornabuoni," is by Max Beerbohm with his manuscript corrections. The correspondence, dating from [1832] to 1858, is from the author to Charlotte Francis Barrett, Catherine Frances Gore, J. F. Macfarlan, his niece Margaret Trevelyan, and a number of unidentified correspondents.
