Ochs, Arthur Hays Sulzberger, Orvil E. Dryfoos, and Arthur Ochs Sulzberger), their families, and staff members, as well as <span class=\"title\">Times'</span> buildings, offices, and events. Most photographs appear to be taken by professional photographers hired by the publishers or <span class=\"title\">The Times</span>. Files usually contain negatives or slides, and occasionally include contact sheets or prints. A small number of items are in color. This collection does not contain images published in <span class=\"title\">The Times</span>.</p> <p>The collection is organized into three series: People, Subjects, and Miscellaneous Additions. The People series consists primarily of individual and group portraits of the Ochs, Sulzberger, and Dryfoos family members in staged settings, at family events, traveling, and at <span class=\"title\">The Times</span> offices. Also present are pictures of <span class=\"title\">Times</span> staff members. The Subjects series includes images of the interior and exteriors of <span class=\"title\">Times</span> buildings, offices, objects (furniture, art, and newspaper production technology), and events. While most items are of <span class=\"title\">The Times</span>, its staff, the publishers, and their families, a few photographs picture affiliated companies, such as the <span class=\"title\">Chattanooga Times</span>. The Miscellaneous Additions are made up of items never cataloged by <span class=\"title\">The Times</span> archives staff and not integrated into the rest of the collection. Although the subject matter of the additions overlap closely with the other two series, only some of the items are duplicate images. They depict Barbara Squier and Julius Ochs Adler's travels in Egypt, Greece, India, Japan, and Palestine; Adler in the army; various Ochs-Adler family members; and various <span class=\"title\">Times</span> buildings and views of New York City.</p> <p>Items germane to two or more people or subjects are often cross-referenced in the finding aid. The bulk of the photographs are in sleeves labeled with the name or subject title and a brief description of the images, including such details as location, date, and photographer, when known.</p> <p>Additional images can be found in the New York Times Company records. General Files, as well as in individual collections of the publishers, editors, reporters, and departments. Of note are the photographs of various <span class=\"title\">Times</span>-owned buildings that document the company's moves to, construction of, and use of office buildings, and factories. Interior shots show <span class=\"title\">The Times'</span> staff at work as well as architectural and decorative details (see the files for Art and Antiques). Photographs of machinery, communication devices, and computers reveal changes in newspaper production technology throughout the 20th century. Both Pictures (General) and <span class=\"title\">Making of a Newspaper</span> files provide overviews of <span class=\"title\">Times</span> offices and staff activities in 1956 and the 1960s, respectively. Also present are photographs related to events that Ochs-Sulzberger family members attended, as well as their homes and mausoleums.
