Scope and arrangement
The materials of the Maine Folk Dance Camp are mainly comprised of the sheet music and dance step instructions for a variety of folk dances (with a few social dances) of different nationalities. It also includes a small number of research papers and bibliography on folk traditions of different countries, such as marriage ceremonies, harvest festivals, etc. The papers were arranged in two series (see organization section).|||The collection provides no background information about the Maine Folk Dance Camp. For more information about Maine Folk Dance Camp see:|||*MGZA Maine Folk Dance Camp, 1953-. Newsletter.|||*MGZR Maine Folk Dance Camp. Clippings File.
The Maine Folk Dance Camp dance instructions and sheet music is arranged in two series:
In the first series the material is organized alphabetically by country and within countries alphabetically by the titles of the dances. The music and instructions are kept together. The authenticity of some of the dances is questionable, but they are left as identified by the Maine Folk Dance Camp staff.
In the second series the research papers are organized alphabetically by country, with the exception of the wedding ceremonies study. Those papers are placed at the end of the series with the alphabetical list of the countries.
