Clyde Beatty (1903-1965) was an American lion tamer, animal trainer, and circus entertainer. Beatty ran his own circus which merged with the Cole Bros. Circus in 1935. The collection holds press releases, programs, advertising invoices, and newspaper clippings relating to the Clyde Beatty and Cole Bros. Combined Circus of 1959.

Biographical/historical information

Clyde Beatty (1903-1965) was an American lion tamer, animal trainer, and circus entertainer. Beatty ran his own circus and merged with the Cole Bros. Circus in 1935. He appeared in film and television throughout his career, and starred in his own radio series, The Clyde Beatty Show, from 1950 to 1952.

Scope and arrangement

The collection holds press releases, programs, and newspaper clippings relating to the Clyde Beatty and Cole Bros. Combined Circus of 1959. Press releases, created by press agent Clarence Foster Bell, announce the different circus acts and performers. Print and radio advertising invoices and an expense sheet from Bell are also present. Newspaper articles review the Beatty-Cole Combined Circus in Canada and the United States. A publicity file in this collection holds clippings of images of the circus performances.
