Design drawings by G. W. Mercier in black and white watercolor for the film Fool's Fire, adapted and directed by Julie Taymor from the Edgar Allan Poe story, Hop-Frog. Taymor's first film, Fool's Fire, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, won best drama award at the Tokyo International Electronic Cinema Festival and was broadcast in March 1992 on the PBS television series, American Playhouse. Taymor designed the puppets, masks and costumes for the production which used live actors behind the masks with the exception of the two dwarfs who were unmasked.
