Edgar Dannenberg, broker and investment company vice president, met playwright Abe Burrows (1910-1985) when they were order clerks at a Wall Street firm. Although Dannenberg chose a career in finance, the men remained friends and corresponded in later life. Mr. Dannenberg also corresponded with other literary and theatrical figures, including Joseph Heller, John Guare, Lillian Hellman, and Michael Kidd. The collection consists of six folders of correspondence to Edgar Dannenberg, from Abe Burrows, television producer Frank Galen, playwrights John Guare and Lillian Hellman, novelist Joseph Heller, and choreographer Michael Kidd. Most of the letters are to Edgar Dannenberg from these correspondees, although there is a copy of one letter from Mr. Dannenberg to John Guare, and a xerox of a letter from Mr. Dannenberg to The New York Times concerning the 1970 film version of Joseph Heller's CATCH-22.
