Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of three audio and eight moving image recordings, including works by Julian Mayfield and Lorraine Hansberry dated circa 1969 to 1972. They include one LP record by Lorraine Hansberry, and two works by Mayfield: Herman Melville and The History of the Black Man in the United States. They are arranged chronologically and in the sequence indicated in original documentation.
Herman Melville is a two-part educational program about the novelist, short story writer, and poet Herman Melville. The History of the Black Man in America is an educational eight-part filmstrip produced for high school students. Included in the collection are parts 2 to 6 and 8. Two audio recordings consist of the audio accompanying parts 3 and 8. When available, information about the name of each part, or their focus, is included in the items' descriptions.
