Elayne Williams Corley (1903-1969) was an active member of numerous Black women's societies and clubs, serving as president and treasurer of the Manhattan section of the National Council of Negro Women. The collection consists of two audio recordings relating to Elayne Williams Corley's life and career, dated circa the mid-1940s and 1985.
Elayne Williams Corley (1903-1969) was an active member of numerous Black women's societies and clubs, serving as president and treasurer of the Manhattan section of the National Council of Negro Women. She was also the president of the Omicron chapter of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, an organization that supports Black businesswomen. Corley served three terms as president of the New York chapter of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, the first African American sorority for business and professional women. She was also one of the representatives to the Non-Governmental Organizations section of the United Nations for the sorority. She was vice president of the chapter at the time of her death.
The collection consists of two audio recordings relating to Elayne Williams Corley's life and career, dated circa the mid-1940s and 1985. They are organized alphabetically by title. Recordings include an address by Dorothy I. Height, a civil rights activist and the president of the National Council of Negro Women, at the organization's fiftieth anniversary celebration. The original format of the recording is cassette, containing two parts.
