Hilda Haynes (1912-1986) was a stage, screen, and television actress whose career spanned almost forty years. The collection consists of one video recording of The Sweet Flypaper of Life featuring Haynes, based on the book of the same name by photographer Roy DeCarava with text by poet Langston Hughes.
Hilda Haynes (1912-1986) was a stage, screen, and television actress whose career spanned almost forty years. Haynes was born and raised in New York City, and began her acting career in the early 1940s. She studied and performed with the American Negro Theatre during the 1940s and 1950s, and was a member of the Negro Actors Guild. Haynes performed in The River Niger by the Negro Ensemble Company during its national tour from 1973 to 1974, as well as in several Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway shows, films, and television programs. She was known for her appearances in the films Across 110th Street (1972), The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (1976), and Time After Time (1979). Haynes died on March 4, 1986 in New York City.
The collection consists of one video recording of The Sweet Flypaper of Life featuring Haynes, based on the book of the same name by photographer Roy DeCarava with text by poet Langston Hughes. The screenplay was written by William Greaves, but he was ultimately unable to raise the necessary funding to produce the film.
