Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of seven audio recordings of the 1985 ABWHE conference, and two videos of the 1990 ABWHE conference held in Albany, New York. The recordings are grouped by conference year and then arranged alphabetically by title.
The conference programs include panels, research presentations, and workshops. Topics covered in the 1985 conference include Black women's professional development, employment opportunities, grant writing, administration, and pedagogy. Presenters discuss obstacles such as racism and sexist stereotypes, and their effects on mental health and job performance.
During the 1990 conference themed "Issues Confronting Black Women in the Twenty-First Century," the issues discussed include the number of Black women entering the fields of health and science, financial literacy, Black women's political engagement in voting and legislation, and Afrocentric family dynamics. Other topics addressed include strategies and support programs for Black women navigating the corporate environment.
