Scope and arrangement
The collection consists of seven video recordings compiling speeches and performances from the 1987 annual convention that took place in St. Louis, Missouri. Four videos are compilations of the conference that took place from May 22 to May 24. Three video recordings are excerpts featuring speeches by three of the conference's high-profile speakers, arranged in the order of their appearance at the conference: Reverend Jesse Jackson, CBTU president William Lucy, and Faye Williams.
The convention included an opening session, plenary sessions, performances, and an awards dinner. Topics discussed include the economic issues and public policies of the Reagan administration affecting Black workers nationally, such as housing, jobs, and health, as well as global events that impacted Black workers, including responses to the apartheid regime of South Africa and U.S. intervention in Grenada. Performances by the Dello Thedford Singers and the Voices of Local 420 choir are featured.
