Kathleen Collins (1941-1988) was a filmmaker, director, playwright, and author. She was a professor of film history and screenwriting in the Theatre Arts Department at City University of New York (CUNY), City College from 1974 to 1988.
Collins began as a film editor at National Educational Television. Her first film, The Cruz Brothers and Miss Malloy (1980), was never theatrically released. Collins directed, co-produced, and wrote the screenplay for her second film Losing Ground (1982). The film was the second full-length feature to be directed by a Black woman. The first was Will (1981) by Jessie Maples.
