Franklin F. Hopper was Chief of the Circulation Department (renamed the Branch Libraries in 1966) of The New York Public Library from 1919-1941. Prior to that he was Chief of the Order Division, and before joining NYPL in 1914 worked for the Library of Congress (1901-1902), the Carnegie Library (1902-1908) and the Tacoma Public Library (1908-1913). Hopper was Director of The New York Public Library from 1941 until his retirement in 1946.
