Scope and arrangement
The Frieda Hempel Collection of Manuscripts, Cadenzas, and Annotated Publications probably represents a small portion of her musical estate (which was dispersed at auction). It includes several works with obbligato flute parts, which were of interest to its previous owner, Carl W. Lutes, as well as a number of scores containing annotations, and outfitted with manuscript cadenzas. These are invaluable as they provide source material for performance practice in the first half of the twentieth century.
Despite its modest size, the collection provides a glimpse into the professional life of a legendary singer.
Arrangement
The Frieda Hempel Collection of Manuscripts, Cadenzas, and Annotated Publications is organized into a single series and is arranged alphabetically by composer or main entry.
