Scope and arrangement
Collection consists of 33 posters of various sizes advertising social dances in various New Jersey cities from January 1924 through December 1932. Cities include West New York, Jersey City, North Bergen, Weehawken, Guttenberg, and Union City. Dance bands mentioned include New Jersey-based ensembles, as well as traveling ensembles from New York City and beyond. Versos of many of the posters include popular song lyrics. Notable is a 1929 poster advertising a Thanksgiving charity event featuring Duke Ellington with his band and a 1932 poster advertising a "battle of the bands" event featuring Noble Sissle.
