The Revered Alexander Hamilton Crosby was rector of the Protestant Episcopalian churches of Yonkers and Greenburgh, New York. He made entries in these diaries between November 2, 1832 and February 20, 1838, recording marriages, baptisms, funerals, and pastoral visits. Entries also mention the organization of the Yonkers Library on January 2, 1834 and the transfer of shares in that library to the Parish Library on December 20, 1835. Hamilton refers to his taking Washington Irving to Greenburgh on August 4, 1835 and records working on his farm throughout the period of the diary
