Naval officer. Letter book kept by Almy while he was commander of American ships of war CONNECTICUT and JUNIATA, 1864-1866; and journal kept while commanding the CONNECTICUT and FULTON, 1857-1864. Includes information on the capture of William Walker in Nicaragua in 1857, protection of American shipping in Tampico, Mexico, 1858, and off Cuba, the Paraguay expedition, 1858-1859, blockading the South Atlantic States during the Civil War, salvaging of contraband cotton, and prizes of war.
