The collection consists of personal correspondence and documents of members of the Winthrop family of New London and Boston, and related Parkin, Rogers, and Moore families, comprising: letters to Mary Winthrop (Mrs. Richard W. Parkin) 1781-1806, 1826, 1846, from Richard W. Parkin, brothers Joseph Winthrop and Thomas L. Winthrop, nephew Joseph A. Winthrop and brother-in-law William Parkin; letters to Mary A. Hitchcock (Mrs. John Still Winthrop Parkin) from Ethan A. Hitchcock, 1818, and Thomas Parkin, 1819, 1820; letters from Augusta Temple Winthrop (Mrs. J. Smyth Rogers) to her father Thomas L. Winthrop, brother James Bowdoin [James Bowdoin Winthrop], 1820-1828 and Mrs. James Bowdoin at Paris, 1807; letters from J. Smyth Rogers, M.D. to Thomas L. Winthrop, 1821, and to Rogers from his maternal uncle Thomas Moore of North Carolina and cousin Charles H. Moore (1844). Also included are a genealogical record of the Moore family of New York City and other locations by John Moore, 1819, copied 1839, with additions; a bond from John Chew of New London to James Bowdoin of Boston, 1769, endorsed by Elizabeth Temple, 1806; and an insurance policy for the brig Neptune, 1798. A note records the death of "my dear Mr. Parkin" on 6 September, with a copied memorial to William Stewart and Richard W. Parkin, taken from the press during the yellow fever epidemic of 1798.
