Pierre Eugène Du Simitière (1737-1784) was a Swiss-born artist, engraver, naturalist, and supporter of the American revolutionary cause. The petition, delivered to the Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, asked that as a citizen of Geneva and only part-time resident of Philadelphia, he be exempted from the fine levied for not providing a substitute in the Pennsylvania Militia
