Benn Pitman (1882-1910) was a stenographer and founded the Phonographic Institute to promote Pitman shorthand. In addition to working as a shorthand reporter, he wrote many books including a biography of his brother, Sir Isaac Pitman. Collection consists of exhibits from the court case, Andrew Jackson Graham vs. Benn Pitman, concerning alleged copyright infringement of shorthand techniques. Exhibits are from Pitman's defense in the case.
