Richard E. Helbig was a New York Public Library employee who worked with the German-American collection. His papers (1896-1938) are comprised of articles authored by Helbig; correspondence; bibliographic reports; and notes on the library's German materials.
Richard E. Helbig (1870-1941) was assistant librarian at the Lenox Library Building of the New York Public Library beginning in 1893. He wrote reports and articles regarding the library’s German-American Collection from 1906 to 1908.
The Richard Helbig papers date from 1896 to 1938 and consist of professional and personal correspondence; conference papers; drafts of bibliographic reports; published articles; and notes on the New York Public Library's German-American collection. The professional correspondence is mainly with library director John S. Billings, while the personal correspondence is primarily with Helbig's family, much of which is written in German.
