Michel Mok (1889?-1961) was a theatrical press agent and journalist. Born in the Netherlands, he immigrated to Canada and later to the U.S. where he worked as a reporter for the New York Post. In the mid-1940s he associated himself with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for whom he handled publicity, public relations and scheduling of major productions. He also translated The Works of Anne Frank for Doubleday. Collection consists of correspondence, business files, typescripts of writings and translations, photographs, and printed matter. Business files include biographical sketches of actors and actresses, programs and press releases.
Michel Mok (1889?-1961), theatrical press agent and journalist, was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada and later to the United States, where he worked as a reporter for many years. After successfully writing a regular column for the New York Post, "Reporter At The Play", Mok's love of theater prompted him to pursue a second career as a theatrical press agent/representative. In the mid-1940s he associated himself with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, for whom he handled publicity, public relations, and some scheduling of major productions such as "I Remember Mama", "Oklahoma", "The King and I", "Pipe Dream", and "South Pacific". In the literary field, Mok translated for Doubleday the Works of Anne Frank. Mok died of pneumonia at the age of seventy-two.
The papers consist of correspondence, business files on shows and artists including biographical sketches of actors and actresses, programs, press releases, clippings, typescript copies of writings and translations, miscellaneous printed matter and photographs. Correspondents include Arthur Garfield Hays, Richard Halliday, Richard Rodgers, and John Van Druten.
