Robert Balmanno was an author and collector of engravings and autographs. He moved from London where he was editor of the London Literary Gazette to New York where he founded the New York Shakespeare Society. Collection consists of letters from Balmanno to John Sartain, engraver of Philadelphia, Pa., relating to Balmanno's collection of books and engravings, attempts to publish his wife Mary Balmanno's book Pen and Pencil, and various literary and artistic matters. Also, letters, 1861-1868, from Mary Balmanno to John Sartain, regarding disposal of her husband's collection of books, engravings and autographs.
