Joseph Glover Baldwin (1815-1864) was an American jurist and author. Robert MacDonald Lester (1888-1969) was an author, teacher and employee of the Carnegie Institute of New York. His published works include Forty Years of Carnegie Giving (1941). Collection consists of papers collected by Robert MacDonald Lester and Cornelia Baldwin Gray for a proposed biography of Baldwin, including his correspondence, 1838-1865, family letters, legal papers, original copy and typescript of his Flush Times of California, and other writings; miscellaneous papers; and correspondence, 1922-1949, of Lester and Gray relating to Baldwin. Also photographs of Baldwin and his wife Sidney White.

Robert MacDonald Lester (1889-), was an author, teacher and employee of the Carnegie Institute of New York. Published works include "Forty Years of Carnegie Giving".

Scope and arrangement

The papers consist of material collected by Lester for a biography of Joseph Glover Baldwin (1815-1864), a jurist and writer. The biography does not seem to have been published and may never have been completed and the papers contain letters to Baldwin's relatives including his daughter Cornelia Baldwin Gray.

Lester collected letters, writings, which include "Flush Times of California" (1866), newspaper clippings and other items relating to Baldwin and his relatives. Included among this material are letters, 1838-1865, legal documents and photographs of Joseph Glover Baldwin and his wife Sidney White (b-d?).
