Samuel Adams Wells (1787-1840) was a merchant and insurance-company executive who wrote a manuscript biography of his grandfather, the Revolutionary-Era politician Samuel Adams (1722-1803). The collection contains Samuel Adams Wells' autograph draft letter dated Boston, 1826 January 9, to the Honorable Jos. [Joseph] Allen, an American politician and nephew of Samuel Adams, at Worcester, Massachusetts (4 pages); also, Wells' undated copy of the 1694 will of Joseph Adams Sr. of Braintree (4 pages), initialled and endorsed by Wells. Wells transcribed the will from a copy once kept by John Adams, bearing his comment praising Samuel Adams. Wells' letter to Allen asks questions regarding Samuel Adams' ancestry and his participation in political events
